With an unwavering eye Irene Jones’ women look outwards to meet our gaze. Self -possessed and often wrapped in thought, they at the same time engage with our world. There is a sense that they are able to see what sometimes we don’t.

After the globe has been rocked, maybe this clarity of vision, born of serenity, awareness and honesty is something we are all reaching for.

Irene grew up in Nottinghamshire where she studied art from the age of 13. She has lived in Devon for most of her adult life, always following her passion for painting.

Over the last ten years Irene’s practice has become more and more focused on the portrait form. Reviving Elizabethan preferences for symbolism and gesture she has invigorated the narrative, figurative genre and her work is now widely collected and cherished.
