Hilke MacIntyre
Hilke grew up in Germany near the Danish border and studied architecture there. On moving to Scotland she concentrated on her art, working in ceramic, linocut and painting.
In image making Hilke enjoys simplifying and transforming reality by introducing bold shapes, colour and pattern. She carves her original design in clay, from this a moulding is made out of casting plaster. She then presses slabs of soft clay into the moulding to get an almost identical impression. Each relief is signed and numbered and fired, glazed by hand, then fired again at high temperature. This means all reliefs are frost proof and suitable for outside display.
Hilke’s reliefs are made in small editions, they have a small recess on the back for easy hanging.
