Sarah is inspired by the Devon countryside around her and by her garden. She makes intuitively, led by the clay and her pieces retain the mark of being made by hand and individual. Her embellishments demonstrate spontaneity and her glazes emphasise the texture of the clay’s surface.
She uses white earthenware paper clay and dinnerware safe glazes. Pots are made to contain shop bought cress and growing herbs; dishes for nibbles or to stand small plants on; pots for jewellery or small pins, clips and homeless items! Her recent trees and landscape studies are entirely decorative to bring a little of the outside in.
A varied career in London, Exeter and New Zealand has seen Sarah working in 3 dimensions always but only latterly in clay. Since settling in Devon she has sought to expand her ceramics practice.
