Drawing is at the core of Gill’s work, a skill which she maintains by regularly drawing from life. Observation and drawing skills honed working from the figure translate into her still life paintings which she regards as portraits of a kind.

The overlooked commonplaces of daily life are scrutinised and elevated in Gill’s paintings. She finds imperfection more interesting than perfection and likes to portray her subjects as they are with their blemishes and evidences of the passage of time or wear.

Gill studied at Burnley Art College and Ripon College of Education. She taught for many years before concentrating on her personal art practice. She works from her studio at home in Cheshire.
