Jane creates simple automata from reclaimed wood. Enjoying the history evident in her materials some parts are left alone, others painted and decorated. Her pieces are constructed with simple mechanics and a sense of humour, devised to entertain.
Recurrent themes in Jane’s work reflect her home at the seaside and her interests in gardening and bird life. Her garden birds peck atop old wooden balls, type blocks and sculpted eggs.
Jane works in a disused cowshed in Penzance, as she says, “ in a state of blissful chaos”.
